The Moral Case Against Global Warming Policies
October 6th, 2008

How odd that someone would make a moral case against global warming. The trend is to promote it as a just cause. Global warming is presented as a problem that we should be doing all we can to fix or life as we know it will be no more. The so called “science” that supporters of global warming use to justify their position is anything but settled. New evidence is constantly being discovered that puts bigger and bigger holes in global warming theories–not laws, theories. The most ridiculous of these theories being that global warming–if it is indeed happening–is caused by human beings.
The objective here is not to go over the science that casts an overwhelming shadow of doubt on the accuracy of global warming theories but, it would be a waste not to share it. Not enough people are aware of this information as it is.
It is probably safe to say that there is no life on the other planets in our solar system. Most places are either too hot, too cold, or lacking an atmosphere like ours. Chances are, no aliens are driving carbon producing SUVs on our neighboring planets. It just so happens that Pluto is experiencing warming. There was a storm on Jupiter that scientists believe is due to climate change. Our closest neighbor, Mars, has been experiencing rising temperatures and as a result: melting. Either our horrible carbon footprints are so gigantic that it is affecting the entire solar system or it’s the sun.
Al Gore’s claim to Hollywood trophies and a Nobel Peace Prize is entirely due to An Inconvenient Truth–conveniently, it has few truths. Gore’s biggest case to link human activity to global warming is the theory that carbon dioxide levels are directly responsible for increases in temperature. His graphs and animations certainly looked sharp and gave an aura of authority. However, CO2 and rising temperatures are not related in the fashion Gore suggests. He would have you think that temperatures rise as a result of increased CO2 levels. Statistically, the warmer periods in Earth’s history came about 800 years before an increase in CO2; that means CO2 levels increased after temperatures increased. In other words, adjusting our “carbon emissions” may not affect global temperatures.
It would also be wise to look back at grade school science. We know that plant life thrive in high CO2 environments. The more green on earth the better. Increased plant life will lead to an increase in wildlife and the problem of starving nations could be more easily solved; the more places for agriculture, the more food we can produce.
That is some of the science and it has been known for years. Global warming fanatics have disregarded it and the public has blindly accepted their false science. Why? Because we are morally good. We want to do what is right and presenting global warming as a result of human activity puts the moral responsibility in our hands. Inconveniently for the global warming fear mongers, the war against global warming is largely immoral and chances are, human activity is not the cause of global warming.
Amongst the most immoral propositions in the war against global warming is the limit of carbon emissions from developing nations. People there do not have access to electricity, clean running water, or any of the luxuries we take for granted. Who are we in the developed world to tell these nations that they must adhere to “green” practices when we have built our lives on a carbon emitting system? It is immoral to forcibly keep people in poverty because of scientific theories. We have no right as a person or as a nation to tell any other person or nation how to live or run their own country.
The great ethanol lie is another derivative of global warming. One third of our corn crop in the United States this year will be consumed by ethanol production. Sounds like a lot except it will account for 3 percent of our total fuel usage while driving up the price of other grains and food. This reduces the amount of food we send over to those who are starving. And if you didn’t already know, it takes more fuel to produce and transport ethanol than ethanol can provide. A gigantic losing strategy that only makes it harder for Americans to buy food and reduces the supply of food to the starving and needy.
This war on global warming is largely a means to steal more money from ordinary folk. The government regulations and subsidies that have sprouted from this war such as carbon taxes and subsidized initiatives like corn-based ethanol are going to make us all poorer. The carbon tax is touted as a great idea so that the evil car drivers can pay for their crimes against the planet. The income tax was also sold to us as a means to tax those evil rich people and the last I checked, the IRS robs all of us every two weeks. These taxes are merely a means for one group to steal money from another group for their own agenda. A carbon tax is not backed by scientific fact and is going to be most destructive to regular people who rely on their car to make a living.
Absolutely no legislation or government regulation as a result of global warming is going to solve the “problem” or make any of us better off. Supporting government global warming initiatives is equivalent to starving and robbing other people. The war on drugs, the war on poverty, the war on anything is another way to ensure the problem will never be solved. The war on drugs has not reduced drug use but has instead put enormous amounts of people in jail for non-aggressive crimes and has created a black market where the truly bad are benefiting.
How to Protect Your Home Against Global Warming

Today, with the great impact of dangerous emissions affecting the Ozone layer leading to unpredictable changes in weather, together at a time where economic difficulties seem to be getting worse with the threat of the credit crunch leading towards a recession, people can only be left holding on tight to what they have.
But still, as the credit crunch continues to hit Britain with the ongoing talks on a possible recession, and as more people avoid using their heaters as the so called ’summer’ season turns into winter, it’s only best to be safe than sorry and to take that extra step in protecting your homes as well as our pockets. So what measures do you have to take to protect your home?
The Association of British Insurers, (ABI) stated that many people insure their homes and possessions through the understanding that if anything may happen to their home due to the typical British weather, their home insurance policy will cover the costs of any damage.
It is believed that as storms rage across the country, thousands of homeowners will discover they don’t have the protection they need.
Earlier this year, Sainsbury’s Bank revealed that 1.78m homeowners do not have building insurance while 656,000 homeowners are not aware of the cover they have.
The ABI emphasises that “Insurance is not a maintenance contract and is no substitute for keeping the property in a reasonable state of repair.” If the insurer believes that the damage has been caused because you have failed to take reasonable precautions to take care of the property, the damage may not be covered or may be reduced if it is believed that the damage was made worse due to poor maintenance.
According to the ABI, a lot can be done to reduce the risk of suffering weather damage.
If your home is in an area which is prone to flooding, it is essential that you ensure that your home insurance covers flood damage. Homeowers are advised if they live in high flood risk areas, electricity metres should be moved higher to guarantee they are out of flood depth. It is also important to use water resistant materials when fitting units into the home as well as providing space for sandbags in case of a flooding emergency.
The ABI also suggests that clearing out drain pipes regularly allowing water to pass through rather than over flow along the sides of the house may avoid causing major damage to the exterior of the home. Preventing other pipes in the home from freezing is also a necessary step to take when taking measures to protect the home. By leaving the heating on low allowing warm air to pass from other parts from the house can help prevent this.
Simple Ways to Prevent Global Warming

Global warming is the increase in average temperature of the earth atmosphere and ocean in the recent decades and it is projected continuation due to the buildup of green house gases causing green house effect. The earth’s average temperature is about 33 C warmer that it should be without the green house effect. Trouble is human activities are causing the increase in green house gases.
Since, we humans are the cause for global warming we need to take steps and find ways to prevent global warming. In our house holds one of the ways to prevent global warming is to save up electricity and being energy efficient by switching of electronics and other appliances which are not in use and replacing old appliance with less energy consuming goods.
For example, “washing and tumble drying a dirty T-shirt consumes three-quarters of the energy used in manufacturing and using it,” said Francisco Javier Navarro of the QUT Institute of Sustainable Resources.
The statement above tells us that our decision on washing our cloths have a great impact on the amount of carbon dioxide we release into the atmosphere. It makes a huge different in energy consumption to hang cloths out on a washing line to dry instead of using a tumble dryer. This is one of the ways an individual can do to prevent global warming.
Another reason for global warming is the emission from the cars that we drive every day. For the past few decades the world population had increased dramatically. This had lead to increase in the car population in the world. Thus increase in the carbon footprint in the atmosphere.
I am not saying we cannot drive to work. We must start to choose the car that is fuel efficient and use bio-fuel. Initially buying this type of cars is expensive, but think about the thousands of dollars you are going to save on fuel price. You are saving you money at the same time you are being environmentally friendly. Now a day’s electric cars are available in many parts of the world. If you can afford to have one than it is a great way to prevent global warming as the emissions level will be reduce at large.
If you have just a normal car you can also play your part to prevent global warming. You can cycle or take public transportation by bus or train if you workplace is just a short distance from your home. You can walk to the market to do your marketing if it is nearby.
Alarming Global Warming Statistics

According to NASA, the hottest year on record was 2005, which matched 1998. Twice in the last ten years, we’ve had the hottest temperatures on average ever recorded in our planet’s history. That is very likely more than just a coincidence.
In fact, the past nine years have all been among the 25 warmest years on record, a streak which is unprecedented in the historical record. For that to happen, it’s likely there has to be an underlying factor, and that factor seems to be global warming.
U.S. and global annual temperatures are now around 1.0 F degrees warmer than they were in 1900. The rate of warming has accelerated over the past 30 years, increasing at a rate of three times faster than the century-scale trend. It’s likely the increase in CO2 emissions has something to do with that rate increase.
According to an MIT study, there’s been a 100% increase in the intensity and duration of hurricanes and tropical storms since the 1970s, most likely due to the increased amount of CO2 emissions to our atmosphere, which has increased the Earth’s surface temperature, and warmer weather is believed to increase the intensity of tropical storms and hurricanes.
In fact, the levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide has increased by 31% between 1800 and 2000, going from 280 parts per million to 367 parts per million. Scientists predict that carbon dioxide levels could be as high as 970 parts per million by the year 2100.
According to the National Climactic Data Centre estimates, $100 billion of damage was caused by hurricanes hitting the U.S. coast in 2005 alone. The increase in severity of the hurricanes and tropical storms is most likely due to the increase of CO2 emissions, which heats up the Earth’s near-surface temperatures. In fact, the average surface temperature has increased by about 0.6 C (1.0 F) over the last 100 years. This is likely why snow cover and ice extent have decreased over the past few decades.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey predictions, Glacier National Park will have no glaciers left by the year 2030, further showing the rapidity of global warming and the impact it can have on our planet in the very near future.
According to the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, 400,000 square miles of Arctic sea ice have melted, which is threatening polar bear habitats and further accelerating global warming worldwide. That amount of Arctic sea ice is approximately the size of the state of Texas, and we’ve lost that in just the last 30 years, further emphasizing that we need to take action now before the damage becomes too severe for our efforts to really matter.
The sea level has risen by 4?-8? (10-20 cm) over the past 100 years, which is likely due to the melting of the polar glaciers, which is likely due to the increase in the Earth’s near-surface temperature, and that’s being increased by the increase in CO2 emissions into Earth’s atmosphere. This can lead to devastating effects for coastal communities because the sea level is rising, which means that when the sea comes in-tide, more erosion can occur, and if coastal communities are present, more damage done to them. In addition, losing the glaciers reduces the amount of usable fresh water on our planet.
It is also projected that 15-37% of all plant and animal species could be wiped out by global warming by the year 2050, which could further cause considerable damage to our planet’s ecosystem.
The United States is ranked nr.1 among large nations of being a global warming polluter, contributing 25% of emissions, even though the U.S. only makes up 5% of the world’s population. This provides more evidence that the U.S. Government must do more to combat global warming. In fact, six former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) leaders say that the U.S. is not doing enough to fight global warming. The fact that there have been NO bills passed by the U.S. Congress to cut global warming pollution further confirms what many EPA leaders are saying.
As you can see, there is statistical evidence that proves that global warming is causing changes to our planet, and changes that will do more harm than good. Governments and individuals need to pay close attention to these statistics in order to figure out ways to reverse the disturbing trends that are now occurring.
How to Sail Faster, Use Less Fuel, and Reduce Boat Maintenance
September 19th, 2008

Growth on the bottom of a boat can reduce its efficiency by as much as 10%. Once fouling has established a hold on a boat hull it will rapidly spread or “colonize” the surface. Prevention is therefore better than the cure of having to remove the fouling by scraping.
Fouling can pose a safety risk. Heavy fouling growth reduces responsiveness of the craft. The added weight of the fouling can make the boat sit lower in the water than intended. This can have obvious implications in heavy weather conditions.
Furthermore, fouling can damage the boat. Prolonged growth of certain types of fouling can damage the substrate of the hull. For example, the natural glues which organisms use to attach to the hull can damage wood and fiberglass. Fouling can also clog water intakes and cause damage to the engines.
Fouling also causes drag. As drag is increased, fuel consumption increases and speed is reduced even to the point where a planing hull may not be able to get on plane. For racing boats, this can be the difference between winning and losing a race.
The best preventive measure is to coat the hull with a specially manufactured boat bottom paint designed to inhibit growth and barnacle attachment, to provide a reduction in friction with the water, and to protect the hull for a long time. The benefits of coating the bottom are less fuel use, faster sailing or motoring, the ability to clean the hull by pressure washing rather than scraping, and less long term maintenance with better resale value.
Anti fouling boat bottom coatings are not meant to be cosmetic or decorative. The best boat bottom coatings incorporate the large polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) molecule which produces a drag coefficient smoother than ice. One implementation, fluorourethane was originated by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratories (NRL) in the early 1970s. It was a combination of a fluorocarbon (Teflon™) molecule with a urethane molecule. The material was unique in that it provided a surface with approximately the same coefficient of friction as the Teflon®, was hydrophobic, UV resistant, and at the same time provided an abrasion resistance four times that of Teflon. The fluorourethane was originally tested on several ship hulls for the U.S. Navy. One boat tested was a harbor tugboat in Chesapeake Bay. The coating lasted 11-1/2 years compared to a conventional hull coating which lasted only 18-24 months. Of major interest was the fact that no rust or corrosion occurred under the coating.
The best coatings also employ copper. Copper has been protecting boat bottoms from growth since the 1700s when Britain’s Fast Ships, like the Cutty Sark, raced from the Orient to England with cargoes of fresh tea. While tin and other biocides have been used on boat bottoms over the years, the proven standard still relates to the level of copper used. Yet copper is not the only determining factor of how well an antifouling paint will perform. The resin-binder system, the material that holds the paint together, is equally important. In addition to holding the paint together, the resin-binder system determines how fast the copper and other biocides are released. The resin-binder system should be carefully tailored for the amount and type of copper used to obtain maximum efficiency. The amount of copper affects the life of an antifouling coating but the sophistication of the resin-binder system to hold and release copper is far more important to the effectiveness of the antifouling effect. The best antifouling boat coatings release biocide at a nearly constant rate throughout their lives. If the resin-binder is correct, lesser amounts of the highly efficient copper biocide are needed to deliver the best possible performance.

The Assurance In Sail Yacht Insurance

Any kind of investment needs insurance. The sailyacht you own is also an investment just like your house, motorcycle or your car. Just as all your material possession especially vehicles are insured, a sailyacht must also be insured. In certain states the law demands that your Sailyacht must be insured. However, insuring any other vehicle and a sailyacht are two different things. The coverage amount your policy gets you is the main difference between insuring the two. The other common differences include the sort of yacht, its location and of course, the company that insures it. While choosing the company make sure you are smart enough in obtaining all the required coverage along with savings that can actually lower the premium you need to pay.
When beginning the search for a broker or, an insurance agent following things should be considered. The insurers for sailyachts are of two kinds: one that does domestic insurance the other insures overseas journey. The domestic insurers are easy to do the research on and also to get a hold of rather easily. The overseas insurers are usually very liberal considering the coverage for an extended navigation.
A little extra research goes a long way before you obtain any kind of sail yacht insurance. Online investigation must be done and references must always be thoroughly checked. The integrity, credentials and records of the firm should be verified. Get many quotes from them, ask many questions and review the information they provide. Never get compelled into entering a Legal and binding contract.
The second issue after dealing with the selection of a company is that of coverage. A list of all the things you want covered by your insurance should be prepared. The list includes a motor; yacht and trailer cover damage, theft, physical damage, and docking and liability coverage. Unlike a car insurance policy a sailyacht policy can include the facility to cover a few pieces of equipment used on board. These namely include board electronics and communication devices used for navigation, sails, anchors, riggings, and on. The logic in allowing this kind of coverage is that these parts are crucial in the proper working of your sailyacht.
Most importantly the sailyacht insurance policy must cover people who work on board and those who use it. A medical coverage is the most important requirement to a healthy yet safe atmosphere on board. It is advisable to be always prepared for accidents with a first aid kit and appropriate coverage amount. On the other hand medical coverage expects you to pick up the tab when its apex has reached. Considering accidents stay aware of your liability and policy coverage.
Finally the golden words that summarize the content here are select a well respected insurance company, check the references, read and understand the words and content of your policy. Only after that you can make a good decision that prevents you from regretting things.

Repairing a yacht is not something you should try yourself, in a single sentence it is not a do-it-yourself job. You actually need a professional to take care of the yacht repairs for you or you will end up spending more than you bargained for. The insurance company will also be up in arms and laughing in your face when it comes to indemnifying you for any damage when they discover the repair professional was not adequately qualified.
This is not the case if you are to planning to claim from the insurance company, if you are technically inclined and have a good enough kill level you could take up your tools and carry out some simple renovation work or repair work by yourself, many a time it is possible for people to do a better and faster job on their yacht repairs when they decide to do it themselves. This also saves them a bit of cash. Depending on the type of repair needed you could save yourself a neat packet if you do it yourself.
Now when it comes to the yacht trailer you will need a good technician who can do a god job on your trailer. The trailer is an important transport vehicle that enables you to transfer your yacht to and from the water and also from one water body to another over land.
Use the following tips when you are looking for good yacht trailer repairmen.
Before beginning repair work on the yacht trailer ensure they have provided you with an estimate after thoroughly inspecting the yacht trailer for the necessary repairs. This is an important step and will ready you for a bill after the repairs are over. This is also to ensure that you are not charged for some repair work you were not sure was carried out anyway.
If the repairs are related to the safety of your yacht and the people surrounding the trailer when you are transporting the yacht you should get it attended to immediately. Repairs that are related to convenience and style can be postponed to a later date. You must also choose the time to repair your yacht trailer wisely. If you choose to call for repairs in the middle f the yacht season you will be charged for repairs at a premium. Off season such as in winter will get your repairs done at a discounted price.
